Ben's Story

Sitting in Children's hospital at 1 a.m., watching my 9-year-old son sleep. Yesterday seems like a Galaxy far, far, away. My mind is rolling, like movie credits, through all the information we have been given about Type One Diabetes. You are so tired, but at that time, I had no idea what tired really feels like. Three days later, we go home with our brains full and bags full of supplies & information. T1D, our new life, our own phantom menace.

Sifting through our bag of "goodies," I remember a card about Rufus and the Bag of Hope. That website encounter brought our family to JDRF. We began to get evites to events for parents, family events and camps. Our small little world began to open up. The more we learned about the research and innovations through JDRF, the more the Moshers wanted to get involved. We started FUNdraising and Team AweSOme was born. My two boys starred in videos to raise awareness and raise money. Our whole family got involved. My husband turned bowls, my sister made little stuffed monsters and a quilt, my mom embroidered tableclothes, friends donated items and we raffled them off.  My husband’s company donated $600 and advertised our JDRF events.

Team AWESOME has participated in the last two years of One Walks and we have only just begun our Revenge on this disease, waiting for cure, our New Hope!
