Linda's Story

The pink-themed Nebraska license plates hold a special meaning for Friend resident Linda Gill.

Gill was diagnosed with breast cancer 14 years ago. Since then, she has been on a journey of hope.

“I attend lots of breast cancer events and have a huge collection of pink items. Lots of things have been given to me from family and friends [and some] things I have gotten for myself,” Gill said.

She even has two pink ornamental “flying pigs.” She has been pictured with a huge pink cement truck and pink trash can saying “Let’s trash breast cancer.”

“I am always looking for anything pink,” Gill said. “One out of every eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer, and breast cancer is the number one cancer killer in women. We cannot miss the fact that men are also touched by this disease. The sad thing is that Nebraska ranks 40th in the nation in breast health care.”
